DIY Mad Libs Calling Cards {Free Printables}

Imagine this scenario: you're out and about when you find yourself in need of sharing your number with someone you've just met. Maybe it's the woman who has a son in your child's kindergarten class, wanting to get your kids together for a play date. Maybe it's a potential employer who has asked if he can contact you for an interview. Or maybe it's the guy from the coffee shop who you're pretty sure could be your soul mate. If you are like me, you'll probably find yourself digging around for a scrap of paper to scribble down your number. But wouldn't it be better to have something on hand so that no matter the occasion or the reason for networking, you're prepared? That's where our DIY Mad Libs Calling Cards come in.

WHAT YOU'LL NEED:

Printed template pages found here
Scissors OR X-Acto blade/ metal cork-backed ruler / & cutting mat
A binding clip, rubber band, ribbon, or business card holder

STEP ONE // PRINTING

Download this pdf and open it up in Adobe Reader (if you don't have it, you can download it here.) Once open, print the document on a heavyweight card stock of your choice. If you are unfamiliar with how to print a two-sided document, Adobe has created a useful guide for double-sided printing. Even if your printer only supports one-sided printing, you can still manually print two sides by printing and then reloading the paper upside down. Print as many sheets as you want. One sheet will make nine cards.

STEP TWO // CUTTING

Using either scissors or an X-Acto knife or other craft knife, cut along all the dotted lines that are on the back side of the calling cards. An X-Acto knife will give a more precise cut, however, if you decide to use an X-Acto please be sure to follow our safety tips below. X-Acto Safety Tips:

Always cut on a self healing cutting mat to protect your work surface. These can be purchased at craft stores like Joann's or Michaels, or any other art supply store.
Always use a metal ruler with a cork or foam backing. The ruler helps you achieve a straight cut and the cork backing prevents the ruler from slipping. Line up the ruler along the dotted line, and follow the edge of the ruler with your blade. Make sure your fingertips are not hanging over the edge of the ruler!
Make sure the X-Acto blade is fresh and sharp. Dull blades can slip or "jump" while cutting, which could cause injury. Plus, sharp blades give a cleaner cut!
Do not force the blade to cut through the paper entirely on the first pass. Some thicker card stocks may require you to cut two or three times along the same line.

STEP THREE // BINDING

Once all the cards are cut, find a cute way to bind them all together. You can use a binder clip, a rubber band, tie a ribbon around them, or put them in a business card case. Now they're ready to take on the go, so no matter where you are or who you meet, you'll never miss another opportunity to say "hello".

STEP FOUR // NETWORK

When using the cards simply fill out your name, number or email, and job title or a description of yourself or where you met the other person. You can change it up depending on who you're swapping contact information with, which is a kind of flexibility that a standard business card doesn't offer. You can use the cards to obtain someone else's information as well. Oh, and if it turns out that the guy from the coffee shop actually IS your soulmate, let us know when you're ready to have your wedding stationery done. We'll be waiting for you! ;)

Vintage Country Chic Wedding Stationery Featured on Oh Lovely Day

How gorgeous is this vintage country chic wedding stationery? As soon as we heard the vision behind this stationery we knew that the wedding would be spectacular. Not only did we love the rustic, vintage feel of the stationery, we enjoyed using different textural elements in the final product. We always get giddy and excited to see our stationery featured at the weddings and events we create them for. It's even more exciting to see the gorgeous photos afterwards displayed on blogs we love. The country chic wedding stationery that we shared in our Invitations Facebook album can be seen on Oh Lovely Day today along with the rest of the amazing details of this couple's special day. This vintage country chic wedding took our breath away! The lace, the pearls, the flowers! Each and every touch was personalized. With every single detail in place, even the simplest of designs can create a gorgeous appearance. We were happy to notice that our place cards were featured on the Every Last Detail Blog at the Glamorous Purple and White Wedding at the Vizcaya in Miami. The event was absolutely stunning. With bold bursts of purple and gold, this wedding was every bit as glamorous as it looked. We loved the gorgeous floral arrangements and table settings. And the dessert bar looked amazing. Wine Country Couture Wedding in Destination I Do Magazine {Featured Stationery}

We were ecstatic to see the latest issue of Destination I Do magazine hit newsstands today. Not only is the cover photo breathtaking, but we're featured in it as well! The ever-so-talented Antonia Christianson Events created a beautiful Wine Country inspired event filled with rich colors, beautiful nature-inspired details, and a gorgeous view. This event took place at the stunning Hammer Sky Vineyards in Paso Robles, California. Each table setting was adorned with gorgeous napkins and table runners custom made by Antonia Christianson Events and sequin linen from La Tavola. We had the pleasure of designing the stationery for the event. From the invitations to the place settings and menus to the food tents for the wine and cupcakes, each piece of stationery carried over the rich and earthy colors of the rest of the event. The flowers that adorned the tables were perfectly arranged by Camilla Svennson Burns Couture Floral and Event Design. The use of gorgeous artichokes, peat moss, and rustic foliage created an ambiance like no other. The wine from OneHope Weddings was beautifully displayed and paired perfectly with the delicious cupcakes and cake from the ever-so-talented Cupcakes Couture of Manhattan Beach. Oh-La-La! Bridal Shower {Ideas and Inspiration}

This Oh-la-la bridal shower, designed and coordinated by Intertwined Events, was the definition of classy. From the beautiful creams and tans of the stationery to the gorgeous flower arrangements and table decor. We had so much fun coordinating the stationery to match this bridal shower's theme and absolutely loved seeing it all pulled together. The simple touches on each place setting made the whole table. From the mason jars for water to the dainty tea cups for cupcakes, this bridal shower is one to be remembered. APictureLife Photography captured each moment of this event perfectly and were able to put on film what everyone at the event experienced. From specialty drinks to specialty cupcakes, no detail was left out. This Oh-La-La bridal shower created a perfect theme to celebrate this bride and her upcoming nuptials. Rock n’ Roll Teal and Grey {Wedding Invitation Ideas and Inspiration}

An invitation can say a lot about a couple’s personality. It also sets the tone for the wedding festivities. So when choosing a design for your invitations make sure that your personality shows through! Don’t be afraid to make crazy requests and find a design you love. These rock and roll invitations scream fun! But they are also gorgeous. The teal and grey work beautifully together and the artwork behind the font is not distracting. It compliments the look of the invitation. By playing with fonts and colors you can create an invitation that sticks out in your guests minds. They will remember the details and be excited to find out what else you have in store for them! Your stationery designer loves creating and is inspired by many images they see. If you have a Pinterest, Loverly or Bridal Style board, start pinning what inspires you. And send that information along to your designer so that they can take your ideas and create something that you love. When we have a client that shares their ideas with us, no matter how outlandish they might sound, it’s much easier to create stationery that the client loves.

Tangerine and Grey Florals {Wedding Invitation Ideas & Inspiration}

Tangerine and grey are two of my favorite colors this season. Something about the smokiness of the grey and the brightness of the tangerine catches the eye. The two shades were made for each other and are perfect for a late summer or fall wedding. The addition of florals to this color combo add an elegance. The different sizes and shapes of the flowers flow so well together and give the invitation stationery texture. And how perfect are the flamingos? They seem to make this chic invitation warm and inviting. The love birds are sure to have a special day planned!

Choosing the Right Shade {Tips and Tricks}

Picking the perfect colors for a wedding can be tough work. There are so many things to consider when bringing an idea together and taking it from imagination to reality. One major thing to consider when choosing the right shade or color to go with your wedding is that not all seafoam greens look the same.

Where to go

There are many brides who see a color they love, ask what the name of it is, and then order that color without making sure it matches the Pantone Matching System. For our stationery customers we highly recommend reviewing our ink color chart before making their final decision. Here are some great places to check out color swatches to find your true color:

What to look out for

Be aware that some computer monitors will show a slight variation between the color you see on the screen and the true color. So if you have any doubts about selecting the true color feel free to ask your stationery designer to match your Pantone color with a swatch book to the print out if they are printing it. Or just ask for a sample to be sent to you. We want to be sure that it’s the color you absolutely love! And we love when our brides send us in a color card or fabric swatch to make sure that the color we print is a great choice. Even paint chip samples from the hardware store work great!

Great tips and solutions

We, and most other stationery designers, are happy to send cardstock color swatch chips before our brides order, and always like to send a full printed mockup so the customer can see exactly what their product will look like in person, before all of them are printed and shipped. I definitely wouldn’t risk buying in bulk without asking or getting a sample, because the colors on digital images can show up so much more differently than in print, so I wouldn’t want our brides to do this either! Check out blogs like The Perfect Palette or this article on Up Market to help choose the perfect shade for your big day. While these sites might not always be geared towards brides, they are geared towards creating the perfect color palatte and can come in handy when choosing the right shade or color.
