1. May I see a full-size invitation printed in this font before I make my decision?

Here at Cherish Paperie, we provide mock-up's to ensure that everything is perfect before we print your invitation.

2. May I see an example of your work?

We have many samples to show you. They can be found on our website and blog.

3. Have any other brides in this area used this same invitation or color combination?

We can check the files and provide the date and an example of the invitation.

4. What will this cost to mail?

We will will weigh a complete sample and total the cost.

5. May I see a proof before it goes to press?

It is vital to see a proof before the final printing is done. We are happy to share one with you.

6. What is the turnaround time?

We should be able to accommodate any schedule you have in mind. But, the more time you allow, the more time we have to work with you.

7. Who will handle assembly―that is, take care of ribbons, bows, or other decorations?

If that’s what you want, we take care of it ourselves, but this may involve an extra fee.

8. Who will handle stuffing the invitations?

We do offer to stuff them for you, but this may involve an extra fee. If you choose to have the invitations assembled by us, inspect both a prototype and several finished invitations chosen randomly from the completed pile before they are mailed. What is a Vector? Best Artwork for Printing

So, what is a Vector?

A Vector image is a graphical file format. The image is composed of a series of “Points” with lines that join these points. Using this method of point-to-point illustration in a vector drawing program, simple or complex line-based geometric and organic shapes can be illustrated. These shapes can be filled with solid or gradient colors. The information on the coordinates of the image’s points and how they are connected and colored is stored within the file as mathematical data. For example, a vector square with a yellow border is essentially coordinates of the square’s 4 corner points, combined with data of its color and line style. The computer uses this mathematical data to render the vector image by connecting the points with lines called “Paths” or “Strokes” and then filling in the shapes color. With vector illustration software and using combinations of geometric and organic shapes, lines and colors, it is possible to illustrate or draw a wide variety of subjects.

What is the Vector File Format?

The W3C standard file format for a vector image is Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG), but more commonly used formats areEncapsulated PostScript (EPS) and Portable Document Format (PDF). Adobe’s proprietary Adobe Illustrator (Ai) vector image format is also widely used. VectorStock’s vector images are available in Vector EPS, PDF and Ai formats.

Vector vs Bitmap Image

There are two general types of digital images on computers;

Bitmap (or Raster) image

- Bitmaps files are images that are made up of tiny, colored dots called “Pixels”. The computer stores the data about each pixel within the image file. The number of pixels can very quickly add up to millions. For example, a digital camera that takes photos at 5 megapixels is creating images that each contains over 5 million pixels. Bitmap images are most suited for photographic imagery.

Vector image

- Vector images don’t contain any pixels. They contain dots, which are called “Points”. But unlike a bitmap image of a square for example, which could contain thousands or millions of individual pixels to display the image, a vector is made up of only a few points and a line that connects the points to draw the shape. Vector images are most suited for illustrated imagery.

Vector Image Advantages

File Sizes: Because a vector is essentially a list of instructions on how to display the image, the file size can often be smaller than a similar image in bitmap form. Scaling a vector image has very little impact on the file size. Resizing a bitmap image however, has a dramatic effect because thousands (and sometimes millions) of pixels are created or removed to match the new size.
Resizing: The ability to easily scale Vector Images to any size is a great advantage. They can be resized without ever losing image quality: the images remain perfectly sharp at any size. The computer simply redraws the vector image using the mathematical data within the file to its new adjusted scale. When bitmap images are resized, pixels are lost (if scaled down) or duplicated (if scaled up) which result in a “fuzzy” or “blurred” image of poorer quality.
Editing: With Vector editing applications such as Adobe Illustrator, Corel Draw or Inkscape the vector image files can easily be edited. The points and paths of individual objects can be selected and altered or deleted as required. The colors or fills within the image can also be selected and modified with ease. Bitmap images can be edited with applications such as Adobe Photoshop but the individual elements within the image are not always selectable.

Conversion

Bitmap -> Vector- Bitmap images can be converted into vector images with tools like Adobe Illustrator’s “Live Trace” but the process often results in poor quality images, as the software has to automatically trace around all the objects within the image.
Vector -> Bitmap- Converting from vector to a bitmap is called “rasterizing”. This is a simple process which most image editing applications are able to perform successfully.

Vector Image Uses

Vectors are commonly used for certain types of visuals such as:

Illustrations
Logos
Icons
Infographics
Maps
Fonts

Vectors are ideal for printing, since the same vector file can be used to print on a small postcard or a giant billboard, remaining clear and crisp on both. Modern fonts are typically stored using vector graphics, allowing them to be drawn accurately at any size.

Examples in Everyday Life

Traditionally Vector images were used within the screen-printing, graphic design and sign writing industries. Today the use of Vectors extends into app and gaming, motion graphics and architectural drawing or CAD based images. The fonts you see on your computer screen including this text are vectors and now with the introduction of HTML5 SVG vectors image can also be natively rendered in most modern web browsers. This has brought about a much greater usage within everyday websites. In 2012 and 2013, both Apple and then Google respectively updated their mapping software (for web and mobile devices) to draw using vector graphics instead of bitmaps. This allows users to zoom in and out quickly, without having to load new, resized graphics each time.

Common Invitation Mistakes

Common Invitation Mistakes 1) Abbreviations- To be socially correct, all words should be spelled out on invitations, accessory cards and envelopes . EX: “Drive” instead of “Dr.”, “Lane” instead of “Ln.”, “California” instead of “CA”.

Exceptions

Honorifics may be abbreviated (Mr., Mrs., Ms., Dr., military rank, etc.).
“St.” or “Sts.” may be used for “Saint” or “Saints”.
Numerical time should use the abbreviations “a.m.” and “p.m.”.
“Junior” or “Senior”, when used in a name, are correctly abbreviated “Jr.” or “Sr.”. They should always be separated from the last name by a comma.

2) Time- Invitations require time to be spelled out, whereas numerals may be used on accessory cards.

Invitations:
- Time should be spelled out.
- Time should never be capitalized.
- Time, on the hour, should be followed by “o’clock” (Note: lowercase and apostrophe).
- Do not use “o’clock” if the time is not on the hour.
- Time, not on the hour, should be hyphenated. EX: “two-thirty” instead of “two thirty” or “two forty-five” instead of “two forty five”.
- Time should always be followed by “in the morning”, “noon”, “in the afternoon”, “in the evening”, or “midnight”.
Accessory Cards:
- Time may be spelled out, following the invitation rules above, or numerals may be used.
- When numerals are used, they should be followed by “a.m.” or “p.m.” (Note: lowercase and periods)
- “Immediately” may be used as a substitute for time. The use of “immediately” and a time is redundant. EX: “Reception immediately following ceremony” is correct, whereas “Reception immediately following ceremony at six o’clock in the evening” is incorrect.

3) Dates- On the accessory cards, date and time formats should be consistent. If time is not provided, you may spell out the date, abbreviate it, or use a numerical date.

Invitations:
- Date should be spelled out.
- Date should be preceded by the day of the week, spelled out.
- Day of the week and date should be separated by a comma.
- Year is printed on a separate line and may be omitted, if desired.
- Month and year should not be separated by a comma.
- EX: “on Saturday, the fifth of June
  Two thousand and four”
Accessory Cards:
- If time is used on the accessory card, be consistent with the date. In other words, when spelling out the time, spell out the date. If you use numerical time, use a numerical date.
- If time is not used, any of the following formats are acceptable:
  - on Saturday, the fifth of June
  - on Saturday, June 5, 2004
  - on Saturday, June 5th
  - June 5, 2004

4) Symbols- We often see the use of symbols to represent words. This is increasingly popular, yet remains a social faux pas. EX: “Mr. & Mrs.” instead of “Mr. and Mrs.” 5) Capitalization- Names of people and places are always capitalized. EX:“corner” as in “corner of Fifth and Main Streets” is not capitalized. When spelling out the year, capitalize the “t” in Two: Two thousand and eight. Sentences (or each new thought on an invitation) always begin with a capital letter. 6) Zip Codes- They do not belong on invitations or most accessory cards. They are appropriate on outer envelopes, r.s.v.p. envelopes and at home cards. 7) Spelling- Ask someone else to proofread your wording, paying close attention to proper nouns. Many common words are often misspelled, or misused. EX: "night" is better than "nite". Should it be "to" or "too"? 8) Grammar- Pronouns should be consistent throughout your invitations. If using first person pronouns (I, we, us, our and me), use them everywhere. If using third person pronouns (them, they, their), use them everywhere. Do not use punctuation at the end of a line, such as commas and periods, in your invitation wording. 9) And vs. To- When parents for both bride and groom are issuing the invitation, the word between the bride and groom’s names should be “and”, not “to”.

EX: Mr. and Mrs. John Jones and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Smith request the honour of your presence at the marriage of their children Mary Anne and Richard Allen

10) Response Date- Respond date should be two to four weeks before the wedding date. Respond date should ALWAYS be before the wedding date. You would be surprised how many people get these two dates switched. 11) Consistency- Use the same ink color on your invitations and accessory cards. Use the same typestyle on your invitations and accessory cards. Use accessory cards that match your invitations. 12) Additional Tips- Make sure you have filled out all necessary information for every item. Make sure you have ordered enough. It is much cheaper to order a few extra initially than it is to order a few extra later. Congratulations, You're Engaged! Now it’s time to start thinking about save the dates, invitations, programs and all the other wedding stationery. All of which you can find on cherishpaperie.com

How far in advance should a bride start researching?

It is never too early to start doing research on all elements of your wedding. A couple should start with the save the dates, as soon as they have picked a date. It is better to have plenty of time, than to have to rush an order at the last minute.

Is there a best time of day or week to communicate?

If the couple can take time out during the week, that’s best. We answer emails all day, and are more than happy to answer any questions. The more details you have in an email, the better outcome you will receive in the design that you have in mind. Showing us examples will also help us design what you have in mind.

Which months are your busiest?

We are busy all year around. Our busiest season starts in January and goes through the summer, for summer weddings.

Go through the process from the first appointment to the delivery of the invitations.

Twelve to nine months out, the save the date usually chosen. It is not absolutely necessary to match the save the date to the wedding invitation, but it is nice to echo similar design styles. Eight months out, the couple should be looking at invitation styles and gathering ideas. Seven months out, we should receive an order with detailed information, so we can work on designing the invitation. Over the next few months, we will send proofs, that the couple can make changes to. Five to six months out, the final order for the invitations should be placed. After it is placed, it is time to start thinking about programs for the ceremony, and reception stationery (i.e. menu, place cards and buffet cards). These are usually ordered a few months before the day of the wedding. Our clients also like to order thank you cards that tie into the design of their invitations or wedding.

What information should the couple give us?

All information for her guests: correct spellings, facts regarding the what, when, where and how. I encourage the couple to take a look on Our website, Pinterest, Facebook, and other wedding websites. It is helpful for the couple to share their ideas, so we can get an idea of their style and what they want.

What types of questions will you ask?

We’ll ask about who’s hosting, the location and the feel of the wedding, because the invitation should portray that feeling. We’ll also ask about menu choices, reply cards, the religious aspects of the ceremony — the denomination of bride and groom and how that determines wording. It can get personal!

What types of questions should the couple ask when they comes?

If it’s important to her, etiquette — making sure they’re following rules. Also, making sure both sets of parents are on the same page and they know who’s hosting, because the invitation calls attention to that. What makes us so valuable is being able to balance what brides are seeing in the market with the mothers who might be more traditional. That’s where the art and the skill come through.

Our beautiful new stationery company website is LIVE!

Welcome to the new cherishpaperie.com!

As a wedding stationery design studio, we love to design pretty paper things. But we found that what we also needed was a beautiful wedding company website that was up-to-date with current trends and technologies. If you follow us on Twitter you've probably seen that we've been getting ready to launch the new and improved CherishPaperie.com for quite some time. Well, we're excited to announce that our hard work has paid off and the big day is finally here! Here are some of the new features we're excited about:

What started as a logo redesign in the summer of 2012 turned into a full-scale company rebrand. We're immensely proud of how far we've come and we hope you get a chance to take a look around, browse our galleries, and enjoy the ease of navigating our new site! Certain parts of our website may still be under construction and we are still adding photos to the galleries. Please let us know if you saw a product in our old gallery, but can't find the item in our new galleries yet, and we will be sure to add it as quickly as possible for you! Creative Design Intern Needed for a Design Internship in Orange County!

We are looking for a friendly and easy-going intern who is able to learn quickly, work independently; is detail oriented and is also very interested in the wedding industry, photography, social media & marketing.

This is a perfect job for a student who seeks an internship with a smaller amount of hours during the school year, and more work in the summer. This is a 3-6 month unpaid internship with lots of opportunity to gain a wealth of experience and connections, and may lead to a hired position. Hours are flexible, approx. 10-15 hours per week for school credit if necessary. You will be working on various projects ranging from company collateral to invitations & branding. We’re looking for a creative person, preferably a student, who has a keen eye for style and design, and who loves crafty projects, pretty flowers, weddings, photography and the like. In this position, interns will be exposed to a variety of tasks and will gain experience in a broad range of graphic art skills, including typography, layout, photography, web design principles and branding awareness. Skills & Requirements

• Self-motivated

• Willing to learn - Self-Starter, takes the lead but is a great listener

• Good communication skills (both written + verbal)

• Great attention to detail

• Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop and InDesign in a PC environment (sorry, no MAC!)

• A familiarity with Hootsuite, Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest and other social mediums a plus

• Web knowledge, including an understanding of Dreamweaver, Blogger or Wordpress a plus

• Photography & editing experience a plus

• A design aesthetic which complements our work

• Well-organized - Great organization skills, willing to work with company file management

• Must be reliable, efficient, detail-oriented, thorough, work well under deadlines.

Responsibilities may include:

• Assisting our designer on client design projects (corporate, social and lots of weddings!)

• Working independently on studio projects

• Researching

• Creating web graphics and banners

• Pre-press work (preparing files, separating colors, etc.)

• Finishing (punching, cutting, packing stationery)

• Social Media updates to Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc.

• Blog graphics and updates on Wordpress

This position is great for a design student, we are within walking distance of Golden West College. Coastline, Orange Coast College and Cal State Long Beach are all very close by. We are anticipating 10-15 hours/week now, and the days & hours can be customized with the right candidate. But we will be seeking a candidate able to offer more availability during the summer months. The position is near Huntington Beach at our home studio, so you must be comfortable working in our home office/workshop, and must be comfortable with small pets and kids around on occasion!
