A beautiful invitation is the first step toward a beautiful wedding so here's how to make sure yours is exactly right.

1. May I see a full-size invitation printed in this font before I make my decision?

Here at Cherish Paperie, we provide mock-up's to ensure that everything is perfect before we print your invitation.

2. May I see an example of your work?

We have many samples to show you. They can be found on our website and blog.

3. Have any other brides in this area used this same invitation or color combination?

We can check the files and provide the date and an example of the invitation.

4. What will this cost to mail?

We will will weigh a complete sample and total the cost.

5. May I see a proof before it goes to press?

It is vital to see a proof before the final printing is done. We are happy to share one with you.

6. What is the turnaround time?

We should be able to accommodate any schedule you have in mind. But, the more time you allow, the more time we have to work with you.

7. Who will handle assembly―that is, take care of ribbons, bows, or other decorations?

If that’s what you want, we take care of it ourselves, but this may involve an extra fee.

8. Who will handle stuffing the invitations?

We do offer to stuff them for you, but this may involve an extra fee. If you choose to have the invitations assembled by us, inspect both a prototype and several finished invitations chosen randomly from the completed pile before they are mailed. As a final precaution, have an invitation sent to your parents.

Some of today's top bridal trends include:

Guest Book Alternatives: Books are beautiful, but you could also pick a poster for partygoers to sign. Download clip art, print it on matte paper and put in a frame for your attendees to autograph.

Bold Balloons: A wall of large balloons in one color but a variety of shapes makes an easy, impactful photo-booth or dance-floor backdrop. (It’s the monochromatic hue that makes them look so chic!)

Playing with Paper: It's not just for formal invitations – paper is also great for making fun, festive garlands to serve as ceremony markers or photo backdrops. Here are some examples: http://www.pinterest.com/cherishpaperie/wedding-ideas/

3-D Details: Delight guests with surprising shapes. These origami-inspired, DIY save-the-dates, ceremony programs, and geometric table numbers can be made in five steps or less. It id also a trend to add lace to invitations. Here are some examples of lace invitations: http://www.pinterest.com/cherishpaperie/lace-invitations-paper-goods/

Out-of-the-Box Escort Cards: Seating instructions can double as creative keepsakes, like these clamshells calligraphed with guests' names. Here are some examples of escort cards and other reception stationary: http://www.pinterest.com/cherishpaperie/programs-placecards-menus-stuff/

Charming Calligraphy: Calligraphy isn't just for the address label, it can dress up all of your paper goods – whether it's all hand done or you have just your names calligraphed, scanned and printed throughout your paper goods. Here are some examples of calligraphy: http://www.pinterest.com/cherishpaperie/typeography-and-callligraphy/

Monogram Motifs: Couples love showing off their new shared initials, whether they're embroidered on napkins at the reception or embossed on the programs. The same design can be used on multiple items to give the event a cohesive look, and you can keep using the motif for the rest of your life. Here are some ideas of monograms: http://www.pinterest.com/cherishpaperie/crests-logos-and-monograms/

Totally Technicolor:Neutrals are nice but bright color makes a huge statement wherever it’s used, from flowers to paper goods to bridesmaids’ dresses.

Unexpected Color: One way to grab guests' attention: use color strategically, in places where no one expects it – like, say, a fuchsia bridal gown that looks like a work of art. Here are some examples of color: http://www.pinterest.com/cherishpaperie/ombre-water-color/ & http://www.pinterest.com/cherishpaperie/watercolors/

Creative Crests: A custom crest lends a royal touch to your big day; have it letterpressed on paper, stamped on fabric or even piped onto your cake.

Common Invitation Mistakes

1) Abbreviations- To be socially correct, all words should be spelled out on invitations, accessory cards and envelopes . EX: “Drive” instead of “Dr.”, “Lane” instead of “Ln.”, “California” instead of “CA”.

Exceptions

Honorifics may be abbreviated (Mr., Mrs., Ms., Dr., military rank, etc.).

“St.” or “Sts.” may be used for “Saint” or “Saints”.

Numerical time should use the abbreviations “a.m.” and “p.m.”.

“Junior” or “Senior”, when used in a name, are correctly abbreviated “Jr.” or “Sr.”. They should always be separated from the last name by a comma.

2) Time- Invitations require time to be spelled out, whereas numerals may be used on accessory cards.

Invitations:

Time should be spelled out.

Time should never be capitalized.

Time, on the hour, should be followed by “o’clock” (Note: lowercase and apostrophe).

Do not use “o’clock” if the time is not on the hour.

Time, not on the hour, should be hyphenated. EX: “two-thirty” instead of “two thirty” or “two forty-five” instead of “two forty five”.

Time should always be followed by “in the morning”, “noon”, “in the afternoon”, “in the evening”, or “midnight”.

Accessory Cards:

Time may be spelled out, following the invitation rules above, or numerals may be used.

When numerals are used, they should be followed by “a.m.” or “p.m.” (Note: lowercase and periods)

“Immediately” may be used as a substitute for time. The use of “immediately” and a time is redundant.
EX: “Reception immediately following ceremony” is correct, whereas “Reception immediately following ceremony at six o’clock in the evening” is incorrect.

3) Dates- On the accessory cards, date and time formats should be consistent. If time is not provided, you may spell out the date, abbreviate it, or use a numerical date.

Invitations:

Date should be spelled out.

Date should be preceded by the day of the week, spelled out.

Day of the week and date should be separated by a comma.

Year is printed on a separate line and may be omitted, if desired.

Month and year should not be separated by a comma.

EX: “on Saturday, the fifth of June

Two thousand and four”

Accessory Cards:

If time is used on the accessory card, be consistent with the date. In other words, when spelling out the time, spell out the date. If you use numerical time, use a numerical date.

If time is not used, any of the following formats are acceptable:

on Saturday, the fifth of June

on Saturday, June 5, 2004

on Saturday, June 5th

June 5, 2004

4) Symbols- We often see the use of symbols to represent words. This is increasingly popular, yet remains a social faux pas. EX: “Mr. & Mrs.” instead of “Mr. and Mrs.”

5) Capitalization- Names of people and places are always capitalized. EX:“corner” as in “corner of Fifth and Main Streets” is not capitalized. When spelling out the year, capitalize the “t” in Two: Two thousand and eight. Sentences (or each new thought on an invitation) always begin with a capital letter.

6) Zip Codes- They do not belong on invitations or most accessory cards. They are appropriate on outer envelopes, r.s.v.p. envelopes and at home cards.

7) Spelling- Ask someone else to proofread your wording, paying close attention to proper nouns. Many common words are often misspelled, or misused. EX: "night" is better than "nite". Should it be "to" or "too"?

8) Grammar- Pronouns should be consistent throughout your invitations. If using first person pronouns (I, we, us, our and me), use them everywhere. If using third person pronouns (them, they, their), use them everywhere. Do not use punctuation at the end of a line, such as commas and periods, in your invitation wording.

9) And vs. To- When parents for both bride and groom are issuing the invitation, the word between the bride and groom’s names should be “and”, not “to”.

EX:
Mr. and Mrs. John Jones
and
Mr. and Mrs. Robert Smith
request the honour of your presence
at the marriage of their children
Mary Anne
and
Richard Allen

10) Response Date- Respond date should be two to four weeks before the wedding date. Respond date should ALWAYS be before the wedding date. You would be surprised how many people get these two dates switched.

11) Consistency- Use the same ink color on your invitations and accessory cards. Use the same typestyle on your invitations and accessory cards. Use accessory cards that match your invitations.

12) Additional Tips- Make sure you have filled out all necessary information for every item. Make sure you have ordered enough. It is much cheaper to order a few extra initially than it is to order a few extra later. If your wedding date is more than six months away, it is considerate to send Save The Date cards six to twelve months before the wedding and invitations four to six weeks before the wedding.

Congratulations, You're Engaged! Now it’s time to start thinking about save the dates, invitations, programs and all the other wedding stationery. All of which you can find on cherishpaperie.com

How far in advance should a bride start researching?

It is never too early to start doing research on all elements of your wedding. A couple should start with the save the dates, as soon as they have picked a date. It is better to have plenty of time, than to have to rush an order at the last minute.

Is there a best time of day or week to communicate?

If the couple can take time out during the week, that’s best. We answer emails all day, and are more than happy to answer any questions. The more details you have in an email, the better outcome you will receive in the design that you have in mind. Showing us examples will also help us design what you have in mind.

Which months are your busiest?

We are busy all year around. Our busiest season starts in January and goes through the summer, for summer weddings.

Go through the process from the first appointment to the delivery of the invitations.

Twelve to nine months out, the save the date usually chosen. It is not absolutely necessary to match the save the date to the wedding invitation, but it is nice to echo similar design styles. Eight months out, the couple should be looking at invitation styles and gathering ideas. Seven months out, we should receive an order with detailed information, so we can work on designing the invitation. Over the next few months, we will send proofs, that the couple can make changes to. Five to six months out, the final order for the invitations should be placed. After it is placed, it is time to start thinking about programs for the ceremony, and reception stationery (i.e. menu, place cards and buffet cards). These are usually ordered a few months before the day of the wedding. Our clients also like to order thank you cards that tie into the design of their invitations or wedding.

What information should the couple give us?

All information for her guests: correct spellings, facts regarding the what, when, where and how. I encourage the couple to take a look on Our website, Pinterest, Facebook, and other wedding websites. It is helpful for the couple to share their ideas, so we can get an idea of their style and what they want.

What types of questions will you ask?

We’ll ask about who’s hosting, the location and the feel of the wedding, because the invitation should portray that feeling. We’ll also ask about menu choices, reply cards, the religious aspects of the ceremony — the denomination of bride and groom and how that determines wording. It can get personal!

What types of questions should the couple ask when they comes?

If it’s important to her, etiquette — making sure they’re following rules. Also, making sure both sets of parents are on the same page and they know who’s hosting, because the invitation calls attention to that. What makes us so valuable is being able to balance what brides are seeing in the market with the mothers who might be more traditional. That’s where the art and the skill come through.

While planning a wedding, sometimes we can get swept up in the details that we love and we can forget about those who will be attending the wedding. While the wedding is for the bride and the groom, it's also a big party to celebrate with family as friends so keeping your guests in mind can help make the event enjoyable for all attending.

By adding a few simple touches to your perfect day you can be assured that your guests will not only have a good time, but they'll remember your wedding for a lifetime to come! And who doesn't want that?

Here are a few great ways to guarantee your guests will love your wedding.

1. Tote Bags for Out of Town Guests - Hosting a destination wedding? Supplying guests with a welcome tote can be a wonderful surprise after a long journey! Fill it with goodies, water bottles, welcome brochures, and tips for fun local things to do during their stay.

2. RSVP Song Request Cards - When guests send in their RSVPs leave a little spot so that they can request their favorite song! Not only does that make them feel like they're already a part of the wedding, you can veto any songs you don't approve before it even gets to the DJ!

3. Fan Programs - Whether you're outdoors or inside a church, depending on the time of year your guests can get hot and uncomfortable. 5. Interactive guest book - Instead of having your guests simply leave their signatures make your guest book fun! Consider a photo booth or have each guest leave their thumb print. There are so many different ways you can allow your guests to interact at your wedding.

6. Flip Flops for the Dance Floor - the number one rule at a wedding is to have fun! So when guest want to get down and boogie they want to be comfy. By having a nice selection of flip flops available for them on the dance floor you can be assured that no one will be sitting out.

{photo by Teale Photography}

7. Vases for your bridesmaid's bouquets - no bridesmaid wants to have their bouquet tossed on it's side while she enjoys the reception! By placing vases at the bridesmaid's tables they can rest assured that their bouquets will be just as beautiful as when they were walking down the aisle. Plus they'll create beautiful centerpieces!

8. Keep the wine flowing - while it's not necessary to have a full bar, consider stocking up on wine and beer for your guests and perhaps one signature cocktail for your big day. That way guests won't feel pressured to purchase drinks at the bar unless they really want to.

{photo by Krista Mason}

9. Let them eat cake - we all know that sometimes the wedding festivities take some time, but try not to make the guests wait too long to cut the cake. Or consider having some cupcakes on hand to give to those who might not be able to stay all night to wait for that special moment. Everyone will be happy!

10. A safe ride home - Having the options for your guests to take a taxi or shuttle bus from your venue to their front door will assure everyone arrives at their homes safely. Plus it'll be one last thing you'll have to worry about!

You wouldn't want your invitation to be lost in the junk mail, would you? Or tossed aside and not looked at? Well we decided to share a few ways on how to make your invitations stand out!

With these simple tips everyone will want to come to your event and it'll be memorable from the time they receive their invite.

How to Make Your Invitation Stand Out

1. Find the Right Fonts

Font is everything. And if you use the wrong one (times new-roman or arial anyone?) your invite won't catch any eyes.

Try and use a few different fonts, but limit yourself to 2-4 and don't go too crazy. We love to use fonts that express what the event will be. If it's a classic, elegant event, use a font that matches the tone of the party. Or if it's a fun, funky party, go for more unique fonts that stand out.

2. Choose a Stock

From color to texture to size, the stock you use to print your invitations on will be the main thing your guests are holding.

Your invitation can be printed on silk, wood, paper, vellum, plastic. If you choose cardstock you don't have to stick with the standard cardstock. It can be smooth, or all sorts of different textures or patterns. You can also choose different colors. Have fun with texture and try to mix things up.

3. Think Outside the Box

Think outside the box... or the rectangle for that matter. Consider using a different shape for your invitations. Or go for a whole different look all together.

Having a destination wedding? Consider creating a passport invitation. Love photography? Consider a series of photos in a book instead of one piece of paper. There are many ways to make your invitations fit your personality.

4. Add Some Glitz and Glamour

Embellish your invitations with ribbon, buckles, rhinestones, and more. Make a statement and create beautiful stationery that matches you and your fiance's personalities.

Consider delivering deliver these beautiful wedding keepsakes in an embroidered silk pouch or cushioned, gate-fold box. Check out our couture line for more options.

5. Color, Color, Color

What better way to make a statement than with color! By simply including your wedding colors in your invitations you can make your wedding stationery pop.

Whether you subtly use color as the backdrop for your invitations in a pattern or as the main selection for your invitation, have fun with it! Tie together alternate colors in other ways. Different color envelope, different color font.

What unique ideas do you love to see on invitations?

The post How to Make Your Invitation Stand Out appeared first on Cherish Paperie.

Imagine this scenario: you're out and about when you find yourself in need of sharing your number with someone you've just met. Maybe it's the woman who has a son in your child's kindergarten class, wanting to get your kids together for a play date. Maybe it's a potential employer who has asked if he can contact you for an interview. Or maybe it's the guy from the coffee shop who you're pretty sure could be your soul mate.

If you are like me, you'll probably find yourself digging around for a scrap of paper to scribble down your number. But wouldn't it be better to have something on hand so that no matter the occasion or the reason for networking, you're prepared?

That's where our DIY Mad Libs Calling Cards come in.

If you are unfamiliar with how to print a two-sided document, Adobe has created a useful guide for double-sided printing. Even if your printer only supports one-sided printing, you can still manually print two sides by printing and then reloading the paper upside down. Print as many sheets as you want. One sheet will make nine cards.

STEP TWO // CUTTING

Using either scissors or an X-Acto knife or other craft knife, cut along all the dotted lines that are on the back side of the calling cards. An X-Acto knife will give a more precise cut, however, if you decide to use an X-Acto please be sure to follow our safety tips below.

X-Acto Safety Tips:

Always cut on a self healing cutting mat to protect your work surface. These can be purchased at craft stores like Joann's or Michaels, or any other art supply store.

Always use a metal ruler with a cork or foam backing. The ruler helps you achieve a straight cut and the cork backing prevents the ruler from slipping. Line up the ruler along the dotted line, and follow the edge of the ruler with your blade. Make sure your fingertips are not hanging over the edge of the ruler!

Make sure the X-Acto blade is fresh and sharp. Dull blades can slip or "jump" while cutting, which could cause injury. Plus, sharp blades give a cleaner cut!

Do not force the blade to cut through the paper entirely on the first pass. Some thicker card stocks may require you to cut two or three times along the same line.

STEP THREE // BINDING

Once all the cards are cut, find a cute way to bind them all together. You can use a binder clip, a rubber band, tie a ribbon around them, or put them in a business card case. Now they're ready to take on the go, so no matter where you are or who you meet, you'll never miss another opportunity to say "hello".

STEP FOUR // NETWORK

When using the cards simply fill out your name, number or email, and job title or a description of yourself or where you met the other person. You can change it up depending on who you're swapping contact information with, which is a kind of flexibility that a standard business card doesn't offer. You can use the cards to obtain someone else's information as well.
